Higher Expectations
Wisconsin is raising the benchmark for students to reach proficient and advanced levels

Starting this school year, Wisconsin is raising the benchmark scores needed for students to reach proficient and advanced performance levels. These new college and career readiness proficiency levels are based on the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) and are part of a strategic effort to help ensure that students are ready for college and careers in a rapidly changing world.

As a result of these higher benchmark scores, Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Examination (WKCE) results will show a significant decline in the number of students considered to be “proficient” or “advanced.” This does not reflect a change in the abilities of students. What is it does reflect is the higher standards and aspirations that School District of Greenfield educators and the State of Wisconsin has for our students.
